AIR CADET RECEIVES NOVEL THANK YOU - posted 11-Jul-25 Cadet Sergeant Pippa Dyter,
from 2312 (Tavistock) Squadron has been recognised as ‘Cadet of the Show’ at
the recent Royal Cornwall Show. Being a sports enthusiast, it was befitting
that she was given a baseball as a thank you for all her hard work over the
three days of the Show. Keen to try new experiences, Pippa put her
name down to attend and assist along with many other cadets from Plymouth
& Cornwall Wing. The cadets travelled from their nearby RAF
base accommodation each day by either minibus, or a ‘half cab’ vehicle which
became known as the SBS - Special Bus Service! Pippa said: As well as helping
set up show jumping arena equipment we had the opportunity to assist in the
RAF Village and guide visitors on using the glider simulator, and handing out
leaflets containing information about the air cadet organisation.” Sqn Ldr Mike Symons, Project Lead said:
“This was the first time that Sgt Dyter had
attended the show. From the very start of the training day on the Wednesday,
to the end of the show on Saturday evening, her enthusiasm was infectious.
Pippa was a committed team player and was a source of inspiration, leadership
and support to everyone in, not just her flight, but the team as a whole. No
matter what the weather, she never stopped smiling and was a pleasure to chat
with. The show can certainly challenge cadets in
different ways, with elements of the team learning how to operate the
simulators and engage with the RAF teams and members of the public in the RAF
village, before swopping for the challenges of the arena where they really do
need to bring their A game. Even wandering around the show in their downtime,
the cadets remain excellent ambassadors for the Corps and leave the other
cadet forces standing.” With a passion for sport and adventure
training, Pippa has already achieved the 25k and 35k distances on Ten Tors,
is working towards her Silver DofE, and has
travelled down to Predannack for some gliding. Of
her most recent experience at the Royal Cornwall Show though Pippa would:
“recommend it to others and would most definitely go again.” Photo: Cdt Sgt Dyter pictured far right. Author: CI Welsh, 2312 Sqn
