YOUR CHILD'S SAFETY

SQUADRON STAFF

Squadron staff consist of uniform staff and non-uniform members. All staff members are checked with the Criminal Records Bureau and have internal security checks to ensure that they are suitable to supervise children.

NON-UNIFORMED STAFF

All staff initially join as a Civilian Instructor. Although often classed as non-uniform they are provided with polo shirts and jumpers with the Air Cadet logo which they are expected to wear while on duty to allow easy recognition as being staff by any visitors. Civilian Instructors are an invaluable part of the Squadron and will provide face to face training with the cadets in various activities. Civilian Instructors are provided with training to ensure that they are equipped with the skills to undertake their duties. Some of the training and qualifications gained as a Civilian Instructor could be of use outside the organisation.

UNIFORMED STAFF

Uniformed staff consist of officers who are commissioned in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training Branch) and Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) in the Air Training Corps. The officers are bound by the Royal Air Force Regulations as well as the Air Cadet Organisation regulations. Officers and NCOs undertake selection procedure which if successful will result in them attending Royal Air Force College Cranwell where they undertake the Initial Officers Course or Sergeants Course. Only if they pass the course are they permitted to remain in uniform.

Both officers and NCOs follow the same rank structure as the Royal Air Force up to the rank of Wing Commander. For officers to command a squadron they must complete the Senior Officers Course at RAFC Cranwell.

WING STAFF

A number of Squadron staff who have skills and qualification in key areas also hold positions on the Wing staff. This will be in addition to their Squadron duties. Some Wing staff duties require more time dedicated to their Wing role and will not be a member of any squadron strength. The Wing staff roles can be found on the Wing HQ page.
